Tears, 2024
Glass, crystal, metal, and the scent of tears from deep sadness, melancholy, and euphoric joy
55 x 32 x 28 cm each

Inhalation – curated by Marcello Dantas – Galeria Luis Maluf, São Paulo

Tears begins with the idea that crying is a form of silent language, one that communicates deep emotions beyond the realm of words. Emotional states such as sadness, melancholy, or euphoria produce tears with distinct chemical compositions. This subtle and almost imperceptible aspect of human experience became the starting point for a series of olfactory compositions developed through the analysis of these variations.

In the installation, devices drip slowly, as if the work itself were crying. With each drop, a fragrance associated with a specific emotion is released into the space. The glass vessels that collect the liquid resemble the shape of the human eye, establishing a direct connection between body, affect, and scent.

By engaging the volatile and invisible nature of smell, Tears proposes a sensory listening to what remains unspoken. The work invites the viewer to approach emotional states through scent, an intimate gesture, often inaccessible through language.
